Electric Roller Shutter That No Longer Stops: Setting the Limit Switches

Your shutter keeps pulling at the end of its rise, slams into the stop or tries to wind backwards? Its limit switches — the top and bottom references memorised by the motor — are misadjusted or erased. Without a quick fix, fasteners and slats will eventually give way.

Why limit settings get lost

  • A power cut during operation or repeated micro-cuts
  • Curtain fasteners slipping on the axle
  • Wear of a mechanical limit switch (older motors)
  • A recent part replacement without reprogramming

Adjustment on a wired motor

Two screws (usually yellow and white) on the motor head each adjust one direction. With the curtain at mid-height, turn the faulty direction's screw a quarter turn at a time, test, repeat. Allow ten minutes working methodically.

Adjustment on a radio motor

The sequence goes through the remote: enter setting mode (often a combined up+down press), position precisely at the top point, confirm, same at the bottom point, then confirm. Every brand has its variant — keep the motor manual inside the shutter box.

If the shutter keeps "forgetting"

Limit settings that repeatedly erase themselves betray tired electronics or a capacitor at the end of its life: adjustment will only be a reprieve. Our technicians diagnose and replace roller shutter motors of all brands throughout Île-de-France, with a free quote.
